I'm considering switching from Qwest to USI Wireless. I made sure they had amoney back guarantee since they have an installation fee. I'd rent the modemfor a month and do the month to month plan before deciding on a longercommitment. We have a node one house away on the corner. Our house is notstucco. I actually signed up for a month of the roaming service. I thought ifthat was ok then the home service should be much better. Why don't you try downloading somethingto find out? You can check the speed by going somewhere likehttp://www.speedtest.net/If the signal is good enough at the place where you tend to use yourcompute, you might not even need the USI box. The USI "modem" is justa (fairly high quality) wireless card, that can be placed wherereception is at its best even if that's not where you want yourcomputer to be. I am located at 43rd & 30th Ave, a bit east of you. It seems the quality ofUSI Wireless service is dependent on connections to the nearest node. Onehouse away, and not stucco -- you should be just fine. I am 3 houses & analley away, all stucco houses, and I still get good service. (Once we figuredout the right location for the wireless receiver.)I had an older Linksys wireless-g receiver, and that worked to get the USIwireless service. But it was slower, and tended to drop connection more often,so I upgraded to the USI one. I am near 32 Ave and 43 St. There are two nodes pretty close but there areseveral houses and large trees. I have no issues with USI. Signed up formonth to month and the slowest speed just to see if I liked it and it hasbeen over a year. I am very pleased with the service from them regardingplacement and general questions being answered. In case anyone else is interested in this I thought I'd give an update. I didfinally sign up for USI Wireless when they put a coupon for free installationon my door. They needed to come back one time to figure out why download speedswere slow (I got the 6 mb service). It was slow just because the USI Wirelessmodem and my wireless router were on the same channel. I got a different modemthan the usual one. It's directional and has to be attached to the window bysuction cup or mounted outside. I've been getting fairly consistent 5-6 mbdownload speeds. It's sometimes more or less but I'm satisfied for the price.Qwest only has 3 mb service in my area. We're at 43rd and 33rd and have been with USI Wireless since the beginning overtwo years ago. Download speeds are variable, 2 to 8 Mbps but upload speeds arelimited to 0.9 to 1 Mb, no matter what download speed you select. We've beenhappy with the service about 98% of the time but occasionally service is slow,when I believe the nearest receiver is off-line.We have our Ruckus (modem) near a window but moving it around doesn't seem tohave much impact on service. We live very close to the receiver, which is anadvantage.If after a few months you like USI, inquire about paying for one year inadvance. I'm at 37th Street and 28th Avenue, into my 2nd year with USIWireless. I've been very happy with the performance. The customerservice isn't always fantastic, sometimes they take a day or two torespond to an email, but otherwise I'm satisfied. You can't beat theprice.As Larry said, look at the yearly payment option.
